Valentine High School had a good start for their first track meet of the season. The high school track team left on March second, Friday morning at ten thirty AM to be in time for the track meet at one o'clock PM.

So far, the Valentine High School Track Team consists of two freshman girls, Jaymie Sanchez and Samantha Kuhlman. They both participated in the track meet and both represented the Valentine Pirates. the invitational track meet was held at Sanderson.

Samantha Kuhlman placed second in high jump with her own personal record of 4'8". Jaymie Sanchez participated in the discus and unfortunately did not place, but in the first flight of throwers, she was in 4th place but close to the end, she was knocked out.

Coach Flippen is the athletic coordinator. I asked how does he think the track season will go? He said,"if Sam continues to improve, she will probably become a regional qualifier.”

“I am not sure how Jaymie will stack up against opponents, but hopefully we'll just have to see how she will progress in the next meet," added coach.

As for junior Francis Sanchez,"Francis will hopefully do shot put and discus again, she was a regional qualifier last year, " Flippen said.

The two freshman girls, who represent the Lady Pirates for the track season, will compete in Van Horn on Friday, March ninth and then, will have the next track meet in Alpine on March twenty-fourth.
