An Exciting JH Tournament

Valentine ISD hosted the District 9A junior high school district basketball tournament on February 8 and 10. The tournament was well attended and was once of the most exciting junior high tournaments that anyone had seen in many years. The teams were evenly matched and the games were fast paced and exciting for the most part. Two games were decided by two points and one game went into overtime.

In the girl's bracket, the Lady Indians from Fort Davis took home the consolation trophy with Sierra Blanca winning third place. The Lady Bears from Balmorhea defeated the Lady Shorthorns for the district title.

In the boy's bracket, Fort Davis defeated the Vaqueros from Sierra Blanca. Marfa defeated Balmorhea to win third place.

The All-Tournament teams for the girls were made up of:
Kayden Gray of Fort Davis
Desiree Penalosa from Sierra Blanca
Mickie Siddiq from Valentine
Brianna Sanchez from Marfa along with her teammate Odelis Ch acon.
Naili Ortega and Diamond Ramos from Balmorhea along with the MVP of the tournament, Salma Mondragon.

The boy's All-Tournament team consisted of:
Ethan Villanueva of Balmorhea along with two Marfa Shorthorns, Ethan Saenz and Jordan Rodriquez. Alex Contras and Roman Bustemante represented Sierra Blanca. Fort Davis placed three players of the team including Elian Trevezo, Henry Downing, and MVP, Blake Rubio.
