The Lady Pirates were outgunned and outrun by the visiting Lady Shorthorns from Marfa on Tuesday, January 9th in the second district game of the year. The Lady Shorthorns remain undefeated while the Lady Pirates are still looking for their first district win of the season.

The Lady Shorthorns jumped out to a 17-3 first quarter lead and never looked back, defeating the Lady Pirates by a score of 48-19.

Jaymie Sanchez continued to lead her team with her 7 points followed closely by her sister Francis who had 6 points. Evan Means had four points and Samantha Kuhlman added two points.

The five Lady Pirates, including Lizett Rey, were unable to keep up with the fast paced game played by the Lady Shorthorns who took advantage of numerous turnovers that their defense forced the Pirates to make.

With that said, the school and the community are proud of the commitment made by these five young ladies who continue to play against what may be seen as overwhelming odds in some cases. (Marfa had 13 girls suited up and ran in fresh players throughout the game.) There is "no quit" in these young ladies and everyone should take the opportunity to congratulate them for their work and dedication to the team, the first all-female team that Valentine has had in several years. We are proud of you!!!!
