The High School Lady Pirates travelled to Sierra Blanca on Friday, January 5th to open district play against the Lady Vaqueros. The game was your typical first game following the Christmas break and was played even before the end of the break. There had been two practices scheduled prior to the game but we only had all five girls available for one of the practice sessions.

The Lady Vaqueros defeated the Lady Pirates by a score of 26-18. Our shooting was dismal in the first three quarters but we finally came alive, somewhat, in the fourth quarter doubling our score for the first three quarters.

Freshman, Jaymie Sanchez led the Lady Pirates with her seven points. Lizette Rey added 5 with Evan Means and Samantha Kuhlman both adding 2 points each. Francis Sanchez had three fouls in the first quarter and was never really able to get into her game. Francis has been scoring around 6 points a game during the first part of the season.

The Lady Pirates will host the district-leading, Lady Shorthorns of Marfa on Tuesday, January 9th, the day that the Pirates return to school from the Christmas break at 6:00.
