The Valentine Pirates are preparing to play their first game with their new player Kimberly Morton. The summer league basketball season will be here pretty soon so the Pirates are putting a team together. So far, they have freshmen Enrique Naverrete, Latham Garnsey, Rye Webb, Sophomore Daniel Koch, and Juniors Daniel Garnsey and Kimberly Morton.

This is going to be the Pirates basketball team next year, so the Pirates will have a little bit of practice with their new player before next year. One of the advantages to having six people on the basketball team is, you have at least one other person to put in the game if another is injured or messes up to bad.

So far, the only team we might be playing is Marfa. Last year we played two pretty good games. The first game we played we won, but the second we lost by a few points. Those were the first two games we got to play with the basketball team that we had this year.

There are also other teams that could possibly play us in summer league, but there is no guarantees yet. All of the Summer League games that Valentine will be playing in will help them no matter if they win or lose. "The games should be really good experience for the team, so I hope that we do the best we can.” Said Daniel Garnsey.

Our new basketball Coach Aaron Morton is not going to get to play, but he is still working out for the game that he will be playing in Lubbock, Texas in July. "Aaron Morton has had many years of basketball experience, so he should be a good basketball coach.” said Enrique Naverrete. Most all the basketball team knows that Aaron Morton is a good player so we hope that he can lead us to a few victories in the up coming Summer League games.   READ MORE
